Weber Democrats Get Salty!

Weber County Dems have joined the newly formed DEMNUTS PAC. Late last year, the County Chairs for Cache, Davis, Summit, Wasatch, and Weber began meeting regularly to share best practices and provide mutual support. It became clear that working together would be the best way to effectively, efficiently, and quickly build out Party infrastructure across Northern Utah. DEMNUTS is focused on tactical and strategic activities that will help us get Dems elected in 2026 and beyond.

Each County is represented by that County’s Chair with a vote on what our priorities are. In addition, Oscar Mata in his role with the DNC and Josh Hoggan in his role with the UDP as Northern Coordinator, are providing organizational and logistical leadership, counsel, and assistance while having no votes on priorities or expenditures. DEMNUTS has contracted with the UDP to get local field organizers and interns for action in Weber County.

The efforts of the UDP Executive Committee and notably the Executive Director, Jade Velasquez, have been instrumental in getting the PAC up and running to support our ambitious goals. Because of the UDP's support, the DEMNUTS County Parties will not have to worry about taxes, benefits, or logistics support for our field organization members. This relieves us of significant administrative and legal burdens. Additionally, because DEMNUTS is a PAC, it must conform to all reporting requirements of Utah.

At our most recent Central Committee meeting, the final allotment of funds for DEMNUTS was approved. I am excited that Weber County is leading this effort. We will benefit from economies of scale across counties, but the funds we are providing will support Weber candidates. Weber funds remain Weber focused.

We have begun the hiring process. If you know someone interested in interning with this program, please let me know. Overall Weber County is spending over $30,000 dollars on this effort. This allows us to fairly compensate organizers and interns who will be union members.

Even with this expenditure, we remain well within our projected budget, with additional funds available for local organizing, events, activities, and support. This is the year to take risks and pursue community outreach unlike anything we’ve done before. With our new office at 1140 36th St Unit# 240, Ogden, UT 84403, we now have a home base for activities, a welcoming space for newcomers, and a place to gather and support volunteers, candidates, and elected officials.

We’ll also soon have Weber Dems merchandise available, and Jacob, our At-Large member of the Executive Committee, is working with local artists to develop exciting designs. We held a volunteer appreciation event last weekend for all those who sacrificed with us through the beginning of this year and all its activities. Keep an eye on the social calendar for those exact details, and we'll have an email out as well. Big thank you to Chelsea, our Volunteer Coordinator, and Priscilla, our Chair of House Chairs.

Our office is already being used by Charlie, our Field Organizer, and Payson, the UDP’s Field Organizer. After the election cycle, we will also have an official ribbon-cutting event once we can finish painting and complete preparations. If you've got some supplies you no longer want, we'd be happy to put them toward some good Democratic use.

It has been a very busy first half of the year, but now the real work starts. Find a candidate you can support with your time, your contributions, or both. All our candidates are on our webpage, and they'd like to hear from you.

Thank you,

Jeremy Thompson

Chairman
