Weber Dems Celebrate Community and Build Solidarity

It’s been a great few days for Weber County Dems.  We’ve celebrated, raised money, created community, and embarked on building out the organization we need to get Democrats elected in Weber County and across Utah.

Tuesday, March 17, was Caucus Night for every county in Utah and more than 5,000 democrats showed up statewide. Here in Weber we hosted 273 people across the county - more than double previous Caucus events.

Caucus night is about creating community - giving people a chance to meet neighbors and build friendships. Politics is people, and at the end of the day, no matter what the policies and politics are at the national level, we need to find a way to work together to create a better world for ourselves, our families, and our neighbors.

Thanks to everyone who worked hard to host these events, those who attended, and those who have stepped up to help lead their precincts, make their voices heard, and shape the Weber Democratic Party into a force for positive change.

Sunday, March 15 we celebrated with our annual Orton & McKay dinner, created to honor two of our county’s most influential democrats, Bill Orton and Gunn McKay. Ken Martin, Chair of the Democratic National Committee and self described progressive and card carrying union member, was our keynote speaker, emphasizing his commitment to returning focus and power to the states and counties and building a truly national party infrastructure. With such a prominent keynote, enthusiasm was high, leading to more than double the number of attendees and more than triple the fundraising over last year.

The O&M dinner celebrates the Democratic stars of Weber County and this year’s award winners are:

Bill Orton & Gunn McKay Legacy Awards

  • Chad Mortenson

  • Steve Olsen

Chair’s Award

Shurtliff/Smith Service Award

Our thanks go to Platinum Sponsor IEBW 354 and Gold Sponsors Oscar and Mariah Mata.

The Weber Democratic Party is focused on building community, creating opportunity, and working in solidarity for the people of Weber. It’s been a whirlwind week - but the net result is that we are more prepared than ever to do the hard and vital work of getting Democrats elected to office.
